Plot summary
Deer hunting season is near in Wheelsy, South Carolina, when a meteorite lands in the woods carrying an alien parasite. The creature takes over the body and mind of Grant Grant, whose wife, Starla, has turned him away for the night. Out drinking, Grant meets Brenda Gutierrez, who has a crush on him, and the two walk into the woods, where he finds an egg on the grass. When he touches it, the parasite fastens onto him and takes control of his brain. In the days that follow, he is driven by a craving for meat and begins to change, gathering slugs into a nest in his cellar. Starla grows suspicious of his appearance and his behavior.
