How to Build a Better Boy (2014) on Netflix

Plot summary

Mae Hartley and Gabby Harrison are tech-savvy tenth graders. Mae tutors Jaden, a jock she likes, and expects him to invite her to the homecoming dance. Cheerleader Nevaeh humiliates Mae in front of others, and Mae says she already has a boyfriend. Gabby offers to program one instead, working from Mae's instructions and using a program called X-17, which the girls believe is a video game design tool of Mae's father's. The program goes haywire and short circuits his computer, and Mae's brother Bart agrees to repair it if Gabby goes to homecoming with him. Albert turns up at school the next morning.
