Plot summary
Tessa works as a mechanic and as an assistant to Divine, her stepmother, and to stepsisters Athena and Olympia. She accompanies the two sisters to a hotel where a Cinderella musical holds open auditions, and the actress cast as its lead will be signed to a record label. At the auditions the show's director, Freddie Marks, presents its star, Reed West, and Tessa is smitten at once. Her stepfamily will not allow her to try out, so Georgie, a makeup artist on the production, gives her a makeover, and Tessa performs under another name. Her singing wins over Reed and Freddie.
