Plot summary
In a time before the Moon, the Cliff Tribe, led by Kingsor, sacrifices blonde women to the Sun God Akhoba to keep the tribe safe from the giant creatures around them. Sanna, one of the chosen, gets away when a storm breaks over the ceremony. Fishermen of the Seaside Tribe find her, and Tara, one of them, becomes taken with her. He takes her home to his people, who worship Akhoba without any sacrifices. Sanna builds a hut of her own and joins a celebration after a successful hunt. Ayak, a brunette woman jealous of Tara's interest in Sanna, calls her a witch and turns the elder women against her. Then Kingsor and his men arrive, searching for Sanna, and she flees.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- A shortage of time and money, plus a violent altercation between effects man Jim Danforth and James Carreras, forced many scenes to be canceled, among them a giant-ant sequence for which Roger Dicken had built an articulated, dog-sized model for close-ups.
- The tribes speak a language written specially for the film of only a dozen words or so, a frequent one being "neekro", meaning "kill", while "akita" is heard many times.
- The stop-motion creatures were animated by Jim Danforth with David W. Allen and Roger Dicken, each model averaging over $3,000; Allen made the crab puppet from a real crab shell, which Dicken gave horns and spikes so it looked less plain.
- A Best Buy-exclusive DVD, released with a G rating, was quickly recalled because it was the original uncut version and contained nudity; it is now a collector's item.
- The title lives on in Steven Spielberg's 1993 Jurassic Park, where a large banner hangs in the visitors' center and later plays a prominent part in the final action sequence, and the banner also appears in the 2025 sequel Jurassic World Rebirth.
