Plot summary
A demon called the Nameless One gives Morgan le Fay three days. A great wizard has shut her out of the earthly realm, and she must beat him and bring his successor over to her master. She takes possession of Clea Lake and turns the young woman against Thomas Lindmer, the Sorcerer Supreme. After an attack on Lindmer, his helper Wong tends to him and tracks Lake down. Lake suffers nightmares of le Fay and is a patient at a psychiatric hospital, under the care of Dr. Stephen Strange. Strange senses that something is wrong and shares her bad dreams. Lindmer comes to see him there and says Lake needs more help than medicine can give. Strange takes his card, which bears the same symbol as the ring he inherited from his father.

- In 1978, Universal executive Frank Price bought the rights to five Marvel characters as potential television projects, but scrapped The Human Torch over fears younger viewers would set themselves on fire imitating him, and dropped Namor the Sub-Mariner for being too similar to Man from Atlantis.
- The blockbuster success of Star Wars pushed the producers to use more elaborate visual effects, but director Philip DeGuere said that was impossible with the resources he was given, which he called inadequate even for the time, and the schedule sent the film over budget.
- Instead of translating the comic directly, DeGuere aimed at its metaphysical themes in an approachable way like the television series Kung Fu, and avoided elements such as the Eye of Agamotto and Dormammu that resisted translation within his budget.
- Director Philip DeGuere said he acquiesced to network notes and added a large amount of exposition dialogue at their request, and felt the result was overly wordy and a mistake in hindsight.
