First role
Khabensky said his first roles came by chance. A meeting with the Hungarian director Tomas Toth led to his part in Natasha, and he was approved for Women's Property after meeting director Dima Meskhiev on the studio stairs.
Getting ready for a role
Khabensky portrayed singer Pyotr Leschenko in the musical television series Pyotr Leschenko. Everything That Was.... He took singing classes to get ready for filming and sang every song himself in the series.
Languages
Khabensky also had a part in the Austrian movie Fly Away Home, which draws on Christine Nostlinger's biographical novel of the same title. To play Cohn, a German-speaking character, he memorized his lines by sound alone.
A role that slipped away
Khabensky played a Russian soldier in World War Z, but the part was removed when the ending's 30 minutes were re-shot.
Behind the camera
In 2018, Khabensky directed his first film, the Holocaust drama Sobibor, and he also appeared in it as Alexander Pechersky.
