Plot summary
In June 1976, four terrorists seize an Air France airliner in Athens on orders from Wadie Haddad. With the consent of President Idi Amin, they divert it to Entebbe Airport in Uganda and hold the passengers there. The hijackers separate out the Israeli travelers and release the rest, then demand that forty Palestinian militants jailed in Israel be freed. Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and his cabinet reject the terms, and the military prepares a rescue operation over 2,500 miles from home while negotiations with the hijackers, now seven in number, continue. The hostages are kept confined at the airport under threat of death.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Julius Harris played Idi Amin only after Godfrey Cambridge, the actor originally cast in the role, died of a fatal heart attack.
- The film's heroic portrayal of the Israeli military led pro-Palestinian states to allege it was nothing more than Zionist propaganda.
- Victory at Entebbe was the first of three 1970s films about the Entebbe raid; Raid on Entebbe and Operation Thunderbolt followed in 1977, and a fourth, Entebbe, arrived in 2018, over four decades later.
- It was shot on videotape at Burbank Studios in California and then transferred to film; the video shooting cut production time so it could air less than six months after the raid that inspired it.
