David Groh

Biography

David Groh was an American actor who became widely known as Joe Gerard, the demolition company owner who married Rhoda Morgenstern on the sitcom Rhoda opposite Valerie Harper. Born in Brooklyn, he performed with the American Shakespeare Theatre and studied in London before joining The Actors Studio. He had silent walk-on roles on Dark Shadows in 1968, then rose to fame when Rhoda premiered in 1974; the episode in which the couple wed drew about 50 million viewers. After being written out of the series, Groh starred opposite Joan Hackett in Another Day and made his Broadway debut in Neil Simon's Chapter Two, then played D.L. Brock on General Hospital from 1983 to 1985. His film appearances included Two-Minute Warning (1976), Victory at Entebbe (1976), A Hero Ain't Nothin' But a Sandwich (1977), and The Return of Superfly (1990).
