Plot summary
On the planet Liaria, the wizard Lerigot flees Divatox, a space pirate who wants his golden key, which opens an inter-dimensional gateway, so she can marry Maligore, a demon held inside a volcano. Lerigot reaches Earth but lands in Africa, where ultraviolet sunlight weakens him and chimpanzees keep him company. Divatox follows. In Angel Grove, Tommy Oliver, Adam Park and Rocky DeSantos prepare for a charity fighting contest whose proceeds would save the Youth Shelter, until Rocky hurts his back. Katherine Hillard and Tanya Sloan bring Justin Stewart, a boy from the shelter who looks up to Rocky. Rocky goes to a hospital, and Justin discovers that the others are Power Rangers. Zordon sends Tommy and Katherine after Lerigot.

- Sets and costumes created for original characters in the film were later used in the television series, with the film's climactic antagonist Maligore reused for the evil Dark Specter in the Power Rangers in Space season.
- As opposed to the CGI Megazord used in the previous film, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, this sequel uses a practical costume for the Turbo Megazord, while the television series would instead rely on Carranger footage.
