Steve Cardenas is an American martial artist and actor who began training in martial arts as a boy in San Antonio, Texas, and earned a black belt in Taekwondo at 16. Big break
Cardenas had no acting experience when he won the role of Rocky DeSantos, the Red Ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and learned on the job.
A change of course
During Power Rangers Turbo, Cardenas retired from acting and departed the Power Rangers series. Contract disagreements were the reason, and he may also have wanted to focus on his martial arts career.
Getting ready for a role
Cardenas became interested in Brazilian jiu-jitsu after a blue belt choked him out in 10 seconds, even though Cardenas had trained for 10 years and the other man for only a year and a half.
