Jason David Frank

Biography

Jason David Frank was an American actor and martial artist who became known to viewers as Tommy Oliver in the Power Rangers franchise. Born in Covina, California, he worked as a child model and was cast in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as the Green Ranger, a part planned for 14 episodes that was extended when the character proved popular, leading to his return as the White Ranger and team leader, and he appeared in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995). He then played the Red Zeo Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo and the first Red Turbo Ranger in Power Rangers Turbo, left in 1997, and came back for the anniversary episode Forever Red and the Black Dino Ranger role in Power Rangers Dino Thunder. He reprised Tommy Oliver in Power Rangers Super Megaforce and Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel. Trained in several martial arts, he created the style Toso Kune Do in 1994.

A role that slipped away
Frank was a professional wrestling fan, and Vince McMahon wanted him to referee a casket match at Survivor Series between The Undertaker and Yokozuna. Haim Saban refused to let the Power Rangers appear on WWF television, so Chuck Norris took Frank's place.
Own stunts
Frank created his own blend of American Karate in 1994, Toso Kune Do, drawing on styles including Shotokan, Taekwondo, Judo and Jeet Kune Do, and was inducted into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame in 2003.
A first
In January 2013 Frank briefly held a Guinness World Record for breaking the most one-inch pine boards during freefall, breaking seven of eight attempted before Daniel McKay topped him that May.
