Plot summary
Human Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen marry, and Jacob Black, who left town when the invitation arrived, returns for the reception. Bella tells him during a dance in the woods that she and Edward plan to consummate their marriage while she is still human. Jacob is furious, afraid it could kill her. The newlyweds travel to an island off Rio de Janeiro. Two weeks later Bella wakes sick and tells Carlisle Cullen, a doctor, that she believes she is pregnant. Edward urges an abortion; Bella refuses and asks Rosalie Hale to guard her.
