Plot summary
Bella wakes from her human-to-vampire transformation, and Edward helps her control her thirst before she meets their daughter, Renesmee. Carlisle tracks the child's rapid growth over the months that follow, while Jacob, who has imprinted on her, stays near the Cullens. Bella's father Charlie keeps pressing for news, so the family plans to leave Forks to protect itself. In the forest, the vampire Irina sees Renesmee and assumes she is an immortal child, a creation the Volturi forbid and punish with death. She reports the family to the Volturi. Alice, whose visions show the future, sees Irina and the Volturi coming, and she tells the others to gather witnesses who can prove what Renesmee really is. Friends and allies are called to stand with the Cullens.

- Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg found the last sequence of Breaking Dawn - Part 2 the hardest to write, because the final battle lasts 25 pages and is almost an entire three-act story in itself.
- For Breaking Dawn - Part 2 the number of CGI wolves grew from four to sixteen, and the extra hair added to give them the right texture pushed rendering time to hundreds of hours for each wolf.
- In April 2012, cast members Pattinson and Stewart and the crew returned for reshoots of extra shots for technical work, and those reshoots added no new scenes or dialogue.
