Plot summary
Sister Ann is sent from her Dominican convent near Antwerp to Samaritan House, in a poor quarter of Brussels. She sings and plays the guitar, and her voice at the evening singalong draws the notice of the sisters and of Father Clementi. She grows fond of Dominic Arlien, a boy with no mother; his father drinks and has no work, and his seventeen-year-old sister Nicole is the one who cares for him. Sister Ann writes the song Dominique for him. Father Clementi asks Robert Gerarde, a partner at a recording company, to hear her music, hoping it can be recorded.
