Plot summary
It is 1985, and the Burge twins, Heather and Heidi, are fourteen when their father moves the family to a new school, where he believes the girls will have better odds at college scholarships. The sisters go out for volleyball. The basketball coach, struck by Heather's height, recruits her, and she takes up the sport to stay in shape for volleyball. Heidi sees herself as the weaker athlete and tries to step out of her sister's shadow by joining a school play. Their father tells the basketball coach that both girls will be on the team, though Heidi has already committed to the play. Both sisters are angry: Heather does not want to share the team, and Heidi blames Heather for the decision. Nicky Williams is the star of the Sea Kings.

SPOILER
The film's flashforward shows the Burge twins playing against each other in the WNBA, but in reality their WNBA careers never overlapped and they never faced each other in a game. Heidi retired after two seasons in 1998, and Heather played only 13 games in 1999.- Tammi Reiss, who plays the volleyball coach in Double Teamed, was a teammate of the Burge twins at the University of Virginia.
