The Second Woman (1950) on Netflix

Plot summary

An architect by trade, Jeff Cohalan designed a modernistic house on a cliff above the ocean, and there he lives by himself. He holds himself responsible for the death of his fiancée, Vivian Sheppard, in the crash that took place on the eve of their wedding. Misfortune has trailed him since: his horse is badly hurt and must be put down, his dog dies of poison, his house burns down, and his business is sabotaged. Ellen Foster, an insurance investigator who has come to the coast to visit her aunt Amelia, meets Jeff and feels drawn to him. She talks the matter over with the family doctor, Dr. Hartley, who believes Jeff is carrying a guilt complex and could put himself and others in danger.
