Jimmie Dodd
Biography
Jimmie Dodd was an American actor, singer and songwriter who grew up in Cincinnati and started out in Florida radio before moving to California to write songs. He wrote an estimated 400 songs, among them Amarillo and Rosemary, and made his first screen appearance in a minor role in Those Were the Days! in 1940. He worked often in films of the 1940s and 1950s, sometimes uncredited, including Flying Tigers (1942) with John Wayne, Easter Parade (1948) and Phffft (1954), and had a small but important part in Quicksand (1950). He was best known as the master of ceremonies on the 1950s Disney television series The Mickey Mouse Club, for which he wrote the theme song, The Mickey Mouse Club March, and sang self-composed songs for children; Walt Disney signed him to a seven-year contract. He died in 1964.
