Plot summary
The Purge is an annual twelve-hour window when every crime, murder included, is legal. In Los Angeles, waitress Eva Sanchez and her daughter Cali prepare to barricade themselves at home, while Eva's father Rico, who is terminally ill, slips away to sell his life to a wealthy family so the money goes to them. Estranged couple Shane and Liz, their car deliberately disabled by a masked gang, are stranded on the street. Off-duty sergeant Leo Barnes loads his guns and drives out to kill Warren Grass, the drunk driver who caused his son's death and was acquitted. As the sirens sound, anti-Purge resistance fighters led by Carmelo Johns jam the broadcasts, and Leo rescues Eva and Cali from a paramilitary squad, then finds Shane and Liz hiding in his car.
