Plot summary
Zachary Stone works as a firefighter and renovates houses on the side, moving into each one as he fixes it up so that none becomes his home. He and his girlfriend Blair, a model, agree they want no long-term commitment, no family and no pets. When a dog harasses a stray cat outside his house, Zachary steps in, and the cat settles in with him. Marilee White is a veterinary student who works at a pet store. Her cat lives with her even though her building does not allow one. Her sister keeps urging her to date. She and Zachary talk in a grocery store aisle over cat food, and her veterinary knowledge impresses him. At a birthday dinner with her sister, Marilee describes a firefighter she calls Brown Eyes, then runs into Zachary at the restaurant.
