Plot summary
A psychology project sends Holly King and Jensen Day to Russia with climbers JP Hauser and Andy Thatcher and sound engineer Denise Evers. Their professor wants them to understand why the hikers of 1959 fled their tents in the night. The team trains on ski slopes, then flies from Oregon to Moscow and on to Chelyabinsk. In the town of Evdel they try to interview Piotr Karov, the tenth member of the original party, who fell ill and stayed behind. Staff at the psychiatric facility claim Karov is dead, and a man in an upstairs window holds up a handwritten sign. Sergei, a driver, translates it as a warning to keep away and introduces them to his aunt Alya, who searched for the original group.
