Plot summary
Oliver is a non-verbal autistic boy who communicates with a tablet computer and a phone. His mother Sarah looks after him, and his father Marty works long hours to support the family; the strain has pushed the couple apart, and Marty moves out. Oliver is bullied at school and longs for a friend. One night a story called Misunderstood Monsters appears on his tablet, about Larry, a lonely monster who wants a friend, and the lights in his bedroom flicker. Sarah arranges a sleepover and invites three of his classmates. When they open the tablet and read the story, the house lights go out and its camera shows something lingering in the dark, waiting for the boy.
