Plot summary
Pat Brady, an older producer, covets the public recognition that Monroe Stahr receives at one of Hollywood's biggest studios during the Golden Age. Stahr, the young production chief, works on a picture and watches the actress Didi disagree with a director. While he reviews the dailies, an earthquake bursts a water pipe in the water tower and floods a nearby set. In the confusion, Stahr sees two women clinging to a statue. One is Kathleen Moore, and he asks his secretary to identify her.
