Tige Andrews

Tige Andrews was an American character actor who built a long career on stage, film, and television. Born in Brooklyn, he trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, completing his studies in 1946. He appeared in the original 1948 Broadway cast of Mister Roberts, playing Schlemmer and Insigna, and won critical acclaim in 1955 as The Streetsinger in a revival of The Threepenny Opera. John Ford later directed him in the 1955 film adaptation of Mister Roberts. On television he appeared regularly on The Phil Silvers Show and in series such as Star Trek. He became known for playing Lieutenant Johnny Russo on The Detectives and Captain Adam Greer on The Mod Squad, roles that brought him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and a Logie Award win. His films included The Last Tycoon (1976) and Raid on Entebbe (1976). He retired in the early 1990s.
