Plot summary
C.S. Lewis is an Oxford medieval scholar, a celebrated author of Christian books and a confirmed bachelor whose series of Narnia stories for children has made him famous. A letter arrives from Joy Davidman Gresham, a divorced American poet raising two sons in New York, and the two begin a correspondence. She and the boys move to England, and Lewis agrees to marry her so that she and her sons can stay in the country. The arrangement he meant as a kindness grows into love, and the couple marry a second time, before God. Douglas and David, Joy's sons, become his stepsons.
