Plot summary
Doctors of the World, the organization Wren Petersen leads in West Africa, was started many years ago by her late father. Wren is a physician and an activist, and she is happy to be in charge of the group, though she often compares herself unfavorably with her father's achievements. In 2003 she meets Miguel, a handsome Spanish surgeon who has given himself to the care of people in parts of the world that are impoverished and torn by war. In Africa he puts himself in danger to bring medical treatment to the people caught in military uprisings. The two fall in love.
