Plot summary
Late one night in the Great Valley, Littlefoot watches a meteor streak down and crash into Threehorn's Peak. When he describes it the next morning, the grown-up dinosaurs dismiss the tale. Two visiting long-necked strangers, the Rainbow Faces, talk of wonders beyond the valley's knowledge and raise the idea that the rock could be a stone of cold fire with magic in it. Littlefoot offers to show Cera's father where the flying rock landed, but the adults warn him away from the Mysterious Beyond, and Grandpa Longneck tells him to leave the matter alone for now. Pterano, the outcast uncle of Petrie, hears all of this and decides to claim the stone, keeping his ambition hidden. He persuades Petrie to reveal where it fell, then sets out with his cronies Rinkus and Sierra.
