Plot summary
King Louis XIV survives an assassin's bullet and begins to fear his own mortality. Dr. Labarthe describes a creature of the sea whose heart, cut out during an eclipse, can make the king immortal, and fishermen under Captain Yves De La Croix are sent to capture a mermaid. Marie-Josèphe, who has lived in a convent and often causes trouble for the Abbess, is told she is traveling to Versailles to play music; no one there knows she is the king's daughter. She befriends a servant named Magali, meets Yves, and follows a strange noise to a chamber beneath the castle, where the captured mermaid is kept.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The King's Daughter (2022)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Paramount pulled the film from its 10 April 2015 wide release just three weeks before it was due in cinemas, naming no new date; a source close to the production said the special effects needed more time. It was later retitled The King's Daughter.
- Because of the long delay, the film became William Hurt's last screen performance to reach audiences before his death in March 2022, even though he had shot it eight years earlier.
- Bill Nighy was cast as Père De La Chaise, a character invented for the film, but dropped out over a scheduling clash and William Hurt took the part only weeks before shooting began, alongside Pierce Brosnan as Louis XIV and Fan Bingbing as the mermaid.
- The Chinese company Kylin Films put $20.5 million into the production, the largest sum China had invested in a non-studio film made outside the country.
