Plot summary
Sherlock Holmes is given news of the death of Sir Charles Baskerville. A family legend tells of a hound that killed the evil Sir Hugo Baskerville after he raped a beautiful farm girl. Sir Henry Baskerville is the nephew and heir of Sir Charles, and the legend says the hound will come for him next. The estate he inherits has a family curse on it. Holmes prepares to save him.

- Producer Sy Weintraub sued Granada Television after discovering it planned a Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett, having already paid the Conan Doyle estate for the rights. The out-of-court settlement, about two million pounds, covered his costs on both The Sign of the Four and The Hound of the Baskervilles and still left him a profit.
