Donald Churchill

An English actor and playwright, Donald Churchill built a 35-year career in film and television. Born in Southall, he made early screen appearances in Barnacle Bill (1957) and The Captain's Table (1959). His film work later took in Victim (1961), Zeppelin (1971), and The Hound of the Baskervilles (1983), where he was Doctor Watson. Other credits included The Wild Affair (1964), The First Great Train Robbery (1978), and Charlie Muffin (1979). On television he starred in Bulldog Breed and Spooner's Patch, and in Goodnight and God Bless, a 1983 show he co-wrote, he portrayed Ronnie Kemp, a game show host. In 1988 he took the role of Mr Scott Eccles in The Return of Sherlock Holmes. His television credits also included C.A.T.S. Eyes and Stanley and the Women (1991). With Julia Jones he co-wrote Moody and Pegg in 1974. He wrote stage plays such as The Decorator, Moments of Weakness, and Mixed Feelings.
