Plot summary
Christie Cromwell and her mother Karen share a house in New Rochelle, New York, with Karen's husband, Paul Fox. Christie comes to believe that Paul wants Karen and her dead so that Karen's money will be his, and she tries to warn the people around her, none of whom take her seriously. A maintenance worker is found dead in the basement, and Christie remembers watching Paul come up from that basement the night before, which convinces her that the trap was set for Karen. She begins following Paul and finds him with a young woman named Brenda Bohle. Brenda's brother Lacey catches her, but she escapes. Paul tells Karen that Brenda is a client, and Karen believes him instead of her daughter.

- Scream for Help's home-video release was backed by an unusually big retail campaign including special brochures, posters, counter cards and a cardboard standup. Karl-Lorimar president Stuart Karl said it was the first time in home video history that a company approached advertising for a home video feature as if it were a theatrical release.
- The two weeks of exterior filming in New Rochelle, New York were arranged to fit an elaborate action sequence, one of the few additions Michael Winner made to Tom Holland's script. Winner said of the process: "I have never done less work on a script in my life".
- Writer Tom Holland was disappointed enough in Michael Winner's direction that he chose to direct his next screenplay himself: Fright Night (1985).
