Edward Judd
Biography
Edward Judd was a British actor whose career peaked in the 1960s with leading roles in British science fiction films. Born in Shanghai in 1932 to an English father and a Russian mother, he was best known for The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961), First Men in the Moon (1964) and Island of Terror (1966), and audiences and critics praised his work in them. The success of The Day the Earth Caught Fire led Columbia Pictures to sign him to a long-term contract. He also acted in soap operas and took character parts on television, among them a tyrannical uncle in the 1979 mini-series Flambards, and he appeared in Thriller (1975), The Sweeney, Crown Court and The Onedin Line. He played Barrymore in a 1983 television version of The Hound of the Baskervilles and Thomas Arnold in the 1988 television film Jack the Ripper, and was a highly respected voice-over artist.
