Plot summary
Two years after her boyfriend Max died in a car crash, Harriet still grieves him. Songs tied to Max pull her back into the past, and the episodes look like seizures, so she wears noise-canceling headphones in public. She keeps trying to reach Max and change what happened. At a grief support group she meets David Park, who is mourning his recently deceased parents and struggling to keep their antiques business going. Harriet invites him to a DJ set with Morris, her friend, the only person who knows she travels through time. She and David grow closer, but a song interrupts when they try to kiss, and Harriet avoids explaining the headphones. Morris suggests she move past Max.

- In August 2022 Lucy Boynton was cast as Harriet Gibbons, the film's lead, after she opted out of starring in a proposed biopic of British singer Marianne Faithfull.
- Ned Benson got the film's story idea from two books he read in 2008: Oliver Sacks' Musicophilia, about how music interacts with the brain, and critic Alex Ross' The Rest Is Noise.
- Benson rewrote the script many times, including the dialogue, as casting went on; the first draft had specific needle drops tied to his own musical selections.
