Did you know?!

  1. First role

Boynton landed her first professional role at twelve as young Beatrix Potter in Miss Potter after a casting director spotted her sitting in on her drama class, and a positive test screening led to extra scenes being written for her character.

  2. A role that slipped away

Boynton was cast as Proust Barbie in Barbie but appears only in a brief cameo, because test audiences did not know Marcel Proust and so missed the humor of the character.

  3. Getting ready for a role

For Sing Street, Boynton adopted an Irish accent and, at director John Carney's instruction, built a backstory for her character in far more detail than she had done before.

  4. Getting ready for a role

Lucy Boynton took the role of Angelica Garnett, a Bloomsbury Group member, in the BBC miniseries Life in Squares, broadcast in 2015. She prepared by reading Garnett's memoir Deceived with Kindness, which she called "a dream for any actor".

  5. Getting ready for a role

Boynton researched Mary Austin for Bohemian Rhapsody by watching Austin's interviews to gauge what she was comfortable discussing and by speaking with Brian May.
