Plot summary
Roy Courtnay makes his living by taking on false identities and steering people into handing over control of their money. In 2009 he turns his attention to Betty McLeish, a widow whose savings run past £2 million. A date in London follows, and when Roy pretends to have a bad knee, Betty invites him to stay in her house. He soon urges her to open an offshore investment account in both their names. Roy also runs a separate investment swindle with his partner Vincent Halloran, using men posing as Russian investors to cheat Bryn and his associate Beni. When one of the supposed Russians, a butcher named Vlad, asks for a bigger cut, Roy has thugs break his hand.
