Plot summary
The body of a teacher hangs outside her school in Monroe, Georgia, with an O cut into the chest. Inside, the killer has staged a classroom where two mannequins play the game, and carved into a desk are the badge numbers of Detective Will Ruiney and the retired Ray Archer. Archer, though retired, joins the case. Reporter Christi Davies goes with Ruiney to the scene, and Captain Lisa Watson tells her not to interfere. The coroner says the victim, Carrie Cooper, had sought treatment many times for fractures. At Cooper's apartment, the detectives and Davies find that she was seeing someone called Joey Truman, and her bedroom is drenched in blood, with BDSM equipment in a closet.
