Plot summary
Lee Gates hosts the financial talk show Money Monster, and Patty Fenn is his producer. News breaks that the stock of IBIS Clear Capital has collapsed, wiping out $800 million, and the company's chief executive, Walt Camby, is in Geneva and unavailable to explain it. Camby cancels his appearance, so the show books IBIS communications officer Diane Lester instead. Partway into the broadcast, a deliveryman walks onto the set, draws a gun, and forces Lee into a vest packed with explosives. He says his name is Kyle Budwell and that he lost his $60,000 life savings after Lee praised IBIS on air. Patty gets the crew out while police, led by Captain Marcus Powell, gather outside.
