Plot summary
Quan, a Vietnam War veteran, runs a Chinese restaurant in London. His daughter Fan is one of twelve people killed by a bomb in Knightsbridge, an attack claimed by a splinter group calling itself the Authentic IRA. Quan goes to Scotland Yard daily for information and offers Commander Richard Bromley twenty thousand pounds for the names of the bombers. Bromley tells him he is hindering the investigation. Quan travels to Belfast to see Liam Hennessy, the deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, a former Provisional IRA leader who has renounced violence.
