Plot summary

Two extras at an Austrian film studio, Janet Krueger and Mimi Schmidt, are not doing well in their jobs. Janet takes one of the studio's luxury cars and a set of expensive prop clothes, and she and Mimi drive away to a hotel in the mountains. The car and the fine clothes make the two of them look like a countess and her maid, and Janet registers under the name Countess of Monte Cristo while Mimi acts as her servant. Neither woman has money or property to back up the role of a countess, so the two of them have to keep the pretense going.
