Plot summary

Bill Reardon gives up his own detective agency because it is not making money, and goes back to the district attorney's office as a special investigator. His wife Sally, who had talked him into starting the business, takes over the agency. Lola Fraser hires her to find out whether Lola's husband Walter has been in touch with Anne Calhoun, a former girlfriend of his. At Nick Shane's nightclub, where Sally pretends the outing with Bill is only for pleasure, she sees Anne's angry fiancé Jerry Marlowe threaten Walter. Walter is soon found dead, and Sally decides to investigate the murder herself, while Bill is assigned the same case by the district attorney and does not know his wife is on it.
