Frank Reicher

Biography

Frank Reicher, an actor, director and producer of German birth who became an American citizen, arrived in the United States in 1899 and built an early career in the theater. He made his Broadway debut that same year in Becky Sharp, then spent years on and off Broadway, led the Brooklyn Stock Company, and served as actor and manager at the Little Theatre on West Forty-Fourth Street. His stage credits included the first Broadway staging of From Morning to Midnight, the original production of The Scarecrow, and the American premiere of He Who Gets Slapped. Moving into film, he had an uncredited part in The Case for Becky in 1915 and eventually worked in more than two hundred pictures. He was best remembered as Captain Englehorn in King Kong (1933) and The Son of Kong (1933), and he also appeared in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye (1950), and Superman and the Mole Men (1951).

Reicher came to America and made his Broadway debut that same year, playing Lord Tarquin in Harrison Fiske's production of Becky Sharp, a Langdon Mitchell comedy drawn from Thackeray's Vanity Fair.
