Plot summary
Discovered at a young age in South Central Los Angeles, Michel'le is a shy, squeaky-voiced singer signed to Eazy-E's Ruthless Records while N.W.A is taking off. Her solo records climb the charts, and she spends nearly a decade with Dr. Dre in a romance marked by drinking, drugs and violence. She grows close to Suge Knight, who co-founded Death Row Records with Dre, and the friendship becomes a romance. Michel'le has children with both men, and the figures around her, from Eazy-E to Tupac Shakur, hold the power in Compton's music business. N.W.A's manager Jerry Heller moves through that same circle.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Before the film aired, Dr. Dre's lawyers threatened to sue the filmmakers if it showed him assaulting Michel'le, which he denied; the film does portray him beating her and shooting at her in one scene, yet Dre never took legal action over his depiction.
- The film is based on the true story of R&B singer Michel'le, a former artist on Eazy-E's Ruthless Records. She got the chance to tell it because she was left out of N.W.A's 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton, which covered the lives of Dr. Dre and his circle.
