Plot summary
Dick Kanipsia leaves prison on parole and goes to see Harry Moss, who tells him about a hidden stash of stolen cash and sends him to Barry Fenaka. Barry is a small-time bandleader, and he says the money came from an embezzlement he and Harry carried out, $312,000 that they handed to Vincent Palmer to keep. Barry and Mary, his wife, take Dick along to collect it, towing an Airstream trailer. They trace Palmer to an office, where Marvin Hollenbeck says Palmer has moved to Pismo Beach. A black camper van marked Willow Camp for Boys and Girls keeps appearing behind them. Kitty Kopetzky, a free spirit who robbed a diner during an earlier ride with Dick, finds him again.
