Plot summary
Charles Salt, an American, and Christopher Pepper, a Briton, own a nightclub in Soho, London, and Inspector Crabbe keeps a suspicious eye on the place. One night Pepper finds a Chinese woman lying on the club floor and takes her for drunk, even arranging a date with her. She is in fact dying. Crabbe questions the two men, and then Colonel Balsom of the Secret Service has them kidnapped and informs them that the woman had been a British agent. Salt and Pepper come across her diary, which names four men marked for murder, and they set out to solve the case on their own.
