Steven Wright
Biography
Steven Wright, born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1955, built a career in comedy on a slow, deadpan delivery of philosophical jokes, one-liners and non sequiturs. He grew up in Burlington and began performing stand-up in Boston in 1979; a 1982 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, arranged by the show's executive producer Peter Lassally, led to an invitation back within a week. His 1985 album I Have a Pony won critical praise and a Grammy nomination, and an HBO special followed. Wright won an Academy Award for the short film The Appointments of Dennis Jennings, voiced the radio DJ in Reservoir Dogs (1992), had a recurring role on Mad About You, wrote and directed the short One Soldier, received two Emmy nominations as a producer of Louie and was the first person inducted into the Boston Comedy Hall of Fame.
