Plot summary
Coffee and Cigarettes is an anthology of eleven standalone scenes, filmed in black and white. Each one gathers a pair at a table over coffee, tea and cigarettes, often two people who disagree about nearly everything and stay civil anyway. In the first scene, Steven talks about his coffee ideas and about drinking coffee before sleep so his dreams come faster; Roberto does not follow him and enjoys listening. In another, twins Joie and Cinqué sit with Danny, a barman who has a theory about a famous singer's evil twin. Iggy and Tom smoke to mark having quit, drink coffee and tell each other that his music is not on the jukebox. Repeated subjects knit the vignettes together: the Lee family, cousins, celebrity, and the link between medical and musical careers.

- The "Cousins?" segment with Alfred Molina and Steve Coogan is set in Los Angeles, but it was actually shot across the country in Brooklyn, at a venue called Galapagos in Williamsburg.
