Sheila Hancock

Sheila Hancock is an English actress, singer, and author who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and worked in repertory before her 1958 West End debut in Breath of Spring. Her Broadway debut in Entertaining Mr. Sloane brought a Tony nomination, and she later won a Laurence Olivier Award for her supporting turn in Cabaret in 2007. She has appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, and she became the first female director of the RSC touring company and the National Theatre's first female director in its Olivier Theatre. Her screen credits include Three Men and a Little Lady (1990), Carry On Cleo (1964), The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008), Buster (1988), and Edie (2017). She received two British Academy Television Award nominations for Best Actress, for The Russian Bride (2001) and for Bedtime (2002), and was appointed OBE, CBE, and DBE.
