Plot summary
Frances Ferris, a musicologist, brings her niece Nikky to Crete and takes a room at the Moon-Spinners Inn, whose owner Sophia and her brother Stratos make clear that guests are not wanted. At a wedding party that evening Nikky meets Mark Camford, a young Englishman who hints that Stratos has something to hide and invites her to swim in the Bay of Dolphins in the morning. That night Mark follows Stratos to the bay and is attacked. In the morning Nikky learns Mark has checked out; while walking she comes upon a trail of blood that leads her to a church basement.
