Plot summary
In the present day, April O'Neil shops at a flea market for gifts for the Turtles and their sensei Splinter, and gives him a scepter from feudal Japan. In 1603 Japan, Kenshin, the son of the warlord Lord Norinaga, quarrels with his father over his plans for war, then finds the scepter in a temple and reads its inscription about opening the gates of time. The scepter swaps the two of them across the centuries, and April wakes in the past wearing Kenshin's clothes while Kenshin lands in the Turtles' lair. Walker, an English trader who supplies Norinaga with firearms, takes April prisoner. Donatello calculates that the Turtles have sixty hours to reach her before the scepter's power fades, and Casey Jones stays behind to watch Kenshin.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Writer and director Stuart Gillard flew to Massachusetts several times to discuss the script with co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, and after several revisions pitched them the idea of time travel, which was immediately greenlit.
- As with both of the previous films, the British PG version was censored over the use of forbidden weapons, Michelangelo's nunchaku, with alternate material used for those scenes; the cuts were later waived for the DVD release.
- Eastman and Laird made it clear to the filmmakers not to bring back the Shredder, who was killed in the previous film, and to make this sequel edgier than the one before it.
