Biography

Russell Means was an Oglala Lakota actor, musician and writer. He began acting in 1992, first playing Chingachgook in The Last of the Mohicans (1992). His film work included Natural Born Killers (1994) and the role of Jim Thorpe in Windrunner (1994), while he portrayed Sitting Bull in Buffalo Girls (1995). He voiced Chief Powhatan in Pocahontas (1995) and Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World (1998). He took the part of Billy Twofeathers in Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000) and appeared as Wandering Bear on Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2004. On television he was Arrowhead in The Pathfinder (1996) and older Running Fox in three episodes of Into the West (2005). He published the autobiography Where White Men Fear to Tread in 1995, recorded the CDs Electric Warrior (1993) and The Radical (2007), and in 2013 the Native American Music Awards gave him a Hall of Fame honor. Andy Warhol painted 18 portraits of him in 1976.
