Russell Collins
Biography
Russell Collins was an American actor who worked for 43 years in theater, film, and television, appearing in hundreds of productions. Born in Indianapolis in 1897, he trained at the Drama School at Carnegie Tech and also attended Indiana University and Northwestern University. He made his Broadway debut in Success Story and was most noted for starring in the 1935 musical play Johnny Johnson. By the late 1940s he shifted increasingly to Hollywood films and television, becoming an in-demand character actor in teleplays, Westerns, and sitcoms. His small-screen work included a 1957 role in the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode The Night the World Ended and a 1962 turn as a town doctor on Wagon Train. He also played Doc in Mr. Roberts when that play was staged in London in 1950. Collins died in 1965.
